How do reservation deposits work?

  1. Enable Require reservation deposit in your reservation settings if you want a card hold for online bookings. Deposits are the most effective way to cut no-shows on busy nights.
  2. When guests confirm a booking, they authorize the deposit amount on their card. The card is not charged at this point — it is a hold, not a sale.
  3. Open any reservation in Tables → Floor to capture the deposit (for example after a no-show) or release the hold when the party arrives. Releasing is the normal path for honored bookings.
  4. Guests see the deposit amount and terms clearly before confirming, so there are no surprises on their card statement.
  5. Deposits require platform payments to be set up for your restaurant. If the option is greyed out, complete Stripe onboarding under Payments → Platform payments first.
  6. You can choose when deposits apply, for example for peak times or large parties. Review each reservation before capturing or releasing a hold. Your guest’s bank determines when a released hold disappears from their statement.
